Crescent-chested Warbler (Oreothlypis superciliosa), Miller Canyon, Cochise County

This Crescent-chested Warbler was discovered by Sheri Williamson,Tom Beatty, Sr., Charles W. Melton, and Alan Stanford  on 24 April 2013 and photographed by Charles W. Melton on 26 April 2013.  It was photographed near the first creek crossing at 1:05 pm. Bird was not calling. Feeding high in the oak trees.

Casual visitor to Arizona.  It has bred.  Prior to this year there were eleven accepted records and one recent report (2011) pending.  Of those twelve records, six have been since 2005 suggesting perhaps that this species is occuring more frequently.   This is the second report this year and there may be a second bird present at this location, making three in all for this year.

Unmistakable.  Prominent white supercilium, yellow throat and breast, white semi-circle under eye. The reduced crescent suggests this is an adult female.
