Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni), Mittry Lake, Yuma County

This Heermann's Gull was discovered by Chris McCreedy and Michael Lester and photographed by Chris McCreedy and David Powell on 06 April 2013.

Heermann's Gull is a casual visitor to Arizona from the Gulf of California and occurs nearly year round, but most records from late fall. Although there are more than 35 records of Heermann's Gull in Arizona, it is the most notorious "one day wonder" and only a few have ever stayed in one location for more than a day.

One of the most beautiful and unmistakable gulls. Adults with a white head, slate gray body, darker gray mantle, black legs, and a deep orange-red bill.
