Short-tailed Hawk (Buteo brachyurus), Barfoot Park, Chiricahuas, Cochise County

This Short-tailed Hawk was discovered and photographed by Tommy DeBardeleben at Barfoot Park in the Chiricahuas on 03 May 2013.

Short-tailed Hawk has been expanding its range northward and increasing in Arizona for the last several years. It has bred in the Chiricahuas at Barfoot Park in the past.

White underparts including the throat. Dark secondaries and trailing edge to the wing contrast with otherwise white underwing.  Barred tail indicates an immature.
