Mew Gull (Larus canus), Lake Havasu City, Mohave County

This Mew Gull was first spotted by David Vander Pluym in a group that included Brad Singer, Tom Benson, Johnny Bovee, and Lauren Harter and photographed by Lauren Harter on 08 December 2013.  It was present with another Mew Gull first documented on 04 December 2013. 

Casual statewide but annual in recent years in the lower Colorado River Valley.

Slightly smaller than a Ring-billed Gull with a smaller bill. Smudgy brown body plumage, brown tail, and heavily barred upper and undertail coverts also distinguish this from Ring-billed Gull.
