Berylline Hummingbird (Amazilia beryllina), Ramsey Canyon Preserve, Cochise County

This Berylline Hummingbird was photographed by Christie Van Cleve on 23 June 2014

First widely reported by Steve Lima on 22 June, apprently this bird has been present since 19 June as reported in the Ramsey Canyon Preserve visitors log.

Nearly annual and increasing summer visitor to the canyons of the southeast part of the state. Has nested.

Note rufous or cinnamon wing panels, purple-bronze upper tail (not visible in these photos), and bright green head, throat, & back. Hybrids between this species and Magnificent Hummingbird have been reported but typically show less extensive rufous in the wings.
