Blue-throated Hummingbird (Lampornis clemenciae), Hassayampa River Preserve, Maricopa CountyThis Blue-throated Hummingbird was
found and photographed by Melissa Oehler on 31 October 2014 This is a first Maricopa County record for Blue-throated Hummingbird. This bird is
casual in central Arizona, but there have been a few other extralimital reports in Yavapai County. Blue-throated Hummingbird is a very large and distinctive hummingbird.
Key ID points include a medium-length bill,
dark tail with large white corners, uniform
grayish color below, green-backed with some bronze tones
on the rump, and two white lines on face: one extending
from the back of eye downward behind eye, and the other
from the base of the bill down to the throat area. 31 October 2014, photo by Melissa Oehler All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
