Red-throated Loon (Gavia stellata), Lake Havasu, Mohave County

This Red-throated Loon was found by David Vander Pluym and photographed by Laurens Halsey on 07 December 2014

Casual late fall through winter visitor to Arizona though recently it has been annual, particularly along the lower Colorado River.

Upturned bill and pale gray head lacking sharp contrast between head, neck and throat. Slender body and neck with a more triangular head shape than other loons.
