Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii), Chandler, Maricopa County

This Cackling Goose was found by Magill Weber and photographed by Dale Clark on 21 December 2014

Cackling Goose is a rare winter visitor to Arizona.

This Cackling Goose was much smaller than the nearby Canada Geese, and it showed a relatively short neck and a short stubby bill. The head was blocky with a steep forehead. The breast was light colored on this Cackling Goose.
