Hepatic Tanager (Piranga flava), Hassayampa River Preserve, Maricopa County

This Hepatic Tanager was found by Anne Peyton and photographed by Craig Fischer on 20 December 2014

Though regular in summer in the mountains of much of Arizona this species is casual in winter away from the south east portion of the state with few records. This was found on the Hassayampa CBC and was a first for the count.

Similar to other female tanagers, but note the gray flanks and auriculars and gray bill.
