Slate-throated Redstart (Myioborus miniatus), Gordon Hirabayashi Recreation Area, Mt. Lemmon, Pima County

This Slate-throated Redstart was found and photographed on 19 March 2015 by Paul Suchanek and photographed by Andrew Core and Ken Murphy on 19 March and by Matt Victoria and Jerome Smith on 20 March.

The earliest accepted record for Arizona is 29 Mar (1993), and the northernmost (pending record) is from Turkey Creek in the Chiricahuas. There is one accepted record for Pima County, a bird close to the county line in Madera Canyon. There were nine records of this species in AZ before 2014, when there were four submitted reports in the Chiricahuas.

This distinctive species has slate gray upperparts, black around the face and throat, red chest and belly, chestnut cap, white on the outer rectrices and lack of any white in the wing.
