White-winged Scoter (Melanitta fusca), Viewpoint Lake, Sun City, Maricopa County

This White-winged Scoter was found and photographed by Vincent Maglio on 27 February 0015

Rare but regular fall migrant and winter visitant in the state, but primarily along the Colorado River.

Large heavy bodied, dark duck with contrasting white secondaries. The muted face pattern and pale bill are typical of a second-year male.
