Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), Cottonwood, Yavapai County

This Broad-winged Hawk was found on a Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival field trip and photographed by Sid Padgaonkar on 26 April 2015

Casual in spring in Arizona, but increasingly reported in recent years in Arizona and throughout the western US.

Small Buteo with rufous barring below, broad black and white bands on the tail, fairly pointed wings and a light underwing with dark border.
