Buff-collared Nightjar (Caprimulgus ridgwayi), Proctor Road, Madera Canyon, Pima CountyThis Buff-collared nightjar was first detected this year by Josh Taylor on 19 April 2015 and
was photographed by Michael Lester on 03 June 2015. It is most likely a returning individual from previous years. Up to two individuals have been reported from this location this year and multiple individuals have been reported from several traditional spots across southeast Arizona this year.
This species is a rare and irregular visitor to desert canyons close to the border, especially in areas with thornscrub. May be more regular than records suggest, however it does appear to be irregular in numbers and this year above-average numbers have been reported than typical in recent years. Medium sized nightjar with
complete buffy collar and relatively long tail, as well as extensive white on underside of tail. 03 June 2015, photo by Michael Lester All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
