Sinaloa Wren (Thryothorus sinaloa), Huachuca Canyon, Cochise CountyThis
presumably returning Sinaloa Wren was refound and photographed by Brad Murphy on 20
and 23 August 2015, and also photographed by Van Remsen
on 20 August. This is a presumed returning bird and the first report for this location since early May 2015. This species is essentially a west Mexican endemic. It is regular in central Sonora and is reported to be expanding its range northward so that it now can be found within 30 miles of the US border. Separated from similar species by the large bill, black and white streaking at the rear of the auriculars and rusty tail contrasting with the brownish back. Although not entirely clear from available images, it
is possible that these two sets of photos represent two
different individuals (with potentially different wear
and molt patterns in the wings and tail). Additional
photo submissions would be appreciated. 20 August 2015, photo by Brad Murphy 23 August 2015, photo by Brad Murphy
