Harris's Sparrow (Zonotrichia querula), Higley-Ocotillo Rd ponds, Maricopa County

This Harris's Sparrow was found by Del Huget and Don Maas on 03 December and photographed by Barbara Buck on 04 December 2015

Our largest sparrow, normal wintering range southern Great Plains, breeding range northern Canada. Rare transient and winter visitor in Arizona.

Black face and throat, large pink bill, and distinctive brownish face and white belly. Associating with a small flock of White-crowned Sparrows, and larger size apparent in the field.
