Yellow-throated Warbler (Setophaga dominica), Patagonia, Santa Cruz County

This Yellow-throated Warbler was found by Matt Brown on 05 December 2015 and  photographed by Dennis Widman on 07 December 2015

Yellow-throated Warbler is a casual transient with about 20 records, although there has been an increase in records in the last few years. One wintered at this location last year and this is likely a returning bird.

Note the yellow throat, black auriculars with white spot behind them, and the white eyeline. This bird is of the western D. d. albilora race. This race has a white or pale yellow supraloral stripe (the part of the white eyebrow near the bill) whereas the other races of D. dominica have bright yellow supraloral stripes.
