Lapland Longspur (Calcarius lapponicus), Holbrook, Navajo County

This Lapland Longspur was found and photographed by Anita Strawn de Ojeda on 09 January 2016

A rare but annual migrant and winter visitor to Arizona, this species was removed from the review list in 2015. This is apparently a first record for Navajo County; given their nearly annual occurrence nearby in Coconino County, this is likely linked to coverage of this large and sparsely birded county.

Rusty greater coverts, dark frame on face, white belly, dark flank streaking, and long primary projection.
