Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius), Liberty, Maricopa County

This Orchard Oriole was found and photographed by Caleb Strand on 30 December 2012

Casual migrant and winter visitor statewide.

Females can be very similar to Hooded Orioles, and size is one of the best distinguishing characters. In these photos, note the short relatively straight bill and short tail, and wing pattern: blackish base color with narrow, well-defined wing-bars and strongly contrasting tertial edges.
