Hybrid Blue-winged x Cinnamon Teal (Anas discors x A. cyanoptera), Lake Cochise, Cochise County

This hybrid Blue-winged x Cinnamon Teal was found and photographed by Sean Fitzgerald on 07 March 2016

A fairly common hybrid combination, though this is the first reported in eBird for Cochise County.

Intermediate between Blue-winged and Cinnamon teals, with the red eye, cinnamon flanks and breast, and fairly large spatulate bill of a Cinnamon Teal, and the spotted flanks, bluish head, and white facial crescent of a Blue-winged Teal. The latter feature is quite variable in this hybrid combination; this individual is fairly strongly-marked.
