Harris's Sparrow (Zonotrichia querula), Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Yavapai County

This Harris's Sparrow was first reported by Rich and Nanette Armstrong and Sam Hough on 26 March 2016 and was photographed that day by Nanette Armstrong. The camp host at the park stated that the bird had been present for two weeks.

Our largest sparrow, normal wintering range southern Great Plains, breeding range northern Canada. Rare transient and winter visitor in Arizona.

Black face and throat, large pink bill (foreshortened in this photo), and white belly with strong black streaks.
