Lapland Longspur (Calcarius lapponicus), Rousseau Sod Farm, Maricopa County

This Lapland Longspur was found by James McKay and Sarah Carlson on 10 October 2016 and photographed by Steve Hosmer on 11 October 2016

A rare but annual migrant and winter visitor to Arizona, this species was removed from the review list in 2015.

Rusty greater coverts, long primary projection, mottled black breast band, white throat and belly, dark malar stripe, rusty brown nape, strong facial pattern with dark frame around auriculars.
