Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius), Scottsdale/McDowell Mt. Ranch backyard, Maricopa County

This Orchard Oriole was found and photographed by Brian Ison on 13 September 2016

Casual migrant and winter visitor statewide.

Females can be very similar to Hooded Orioles, and size is one of the best distinguishing characters. In these photos, note the short relatively straight bill and relatively short tail, and wing pattern: dark base color with narrow, well-defined wing-bars and strongly contrasting tertial edges.
