Bay-breasted Warbler (Setophaga castanea), Yuma East Wetlands, Yuma County

This Bay-breasted Warbler was found and photographed by Matt Victoria on 06 November 2016 and by Henry Detwiler on 07 November 2016

One of the rarer of the eastern warblers in Arizona, there are only 19 previous state records with the last from 2014 in Yuma County.  Like some other boreal breeding vagrants, Bay-breasted Warbler has been extremely rare recently with only four records since 1996.

Bay-breasted can be similar to Pine and Blackpoll Warblers, however note greenish side of neck, faint stripes on back, no stripes on breast, and especially the bay coloration to the sides.
