Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), Cottonwood Park, Colorado City, Mohave County

This Black-capped Chickadee was found and photographed by Chris McCreedy on 14 January 2017

Casual fall and winter visitor to extreme northern Arizona with 12 accepted records.  Probably underreported because it occurs in areas and at times of the year with very little coverage by birders. This is the first report from this location since 2009.

Solid black cap without a white supercillium, black throat and white below the eye and to the cheek and onto the nape, and buffy flanks. Beware worn Mountain Chickadees that can have very inconsipicuous white supercilliums.
