Slate-throated Redstart (Myioborus miniatus), Pinery Canyon, Chiricahua Mountains, Cochise County

This Slate-throated Redstart was found and photographed by Tom Johnson on 30 April 2017 and photographed by Michael Woodruff on 13 May 2017

First 2017 sighting of this species at the site where at least one bird was present in 2016.

Casual visitor to southeastern Arizona with an increase in reports in the past few years. Likely a returning bird, for details on last years sighting, including nesting, see here.

No white in wings; dark gray-black throat, dull red on underparts; tail ragged and worn on this individual (note: Chris McCreedy photographed a bird on 5/1 that seems to have a tail showing less wear, suggesting two individuals might be present right now) but still shows some white in the outer rectrices.
