Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), Las Cienegas National Conservation Area, Pima County

This Upland Sandpiper was spotted by Willy Williams and Jess Bettess and identified and photographed by Chris Rohrer and Chris Benesh on 12 August 2017

Grassland species which was found at a reintroduced Black-tailed Prairie Dog colony.

Casual in fall (mainly mid August to mid September) with 11 prior records for the state, with another report pending.

Upland Sandpiper has a very distinctive shape with small head, large eyes, thin neck and long tail. Pale face, white belly, and yellow legs are also distinctive.
