American Tree Sparrow (Spizelloides arborea), Lee's Ferry, Coconino County

This American Tree Sparrow was found by Brian Gatlin on 10 November 2017 and photographed by Jason Wilder on the same date.

Casual in northern Arizona, with only five accepted records and three published pre-Arizona Bird Committee records.

The combination of rufous crown and eye-stripe, dark spot on breast and bicolored bill make American Tree Sparrow quite distinctive. Although recently moved out of Spizella, it is structurally like a Spizella sparrow, with relatively small bill and long tail.
