McCown's Longspur (Rhynchophanes mccownii), Little Rodgers Tanks, Northwest of Valle, Coconino CountyThis McCown's Longspur was
found by David Vander Pluym, Lauren Harter, and Felipe
Guerrero on 11 November 2017 and photographed by David
Vander Pluym on the same date. Only 1 seen coming into the tank, but up to 17 were found nearby the next day. Considered rare and decreasing throughout Arizona. There are very few records of this species for Coconino County, though it is likely overlooked.
Large pink bill, black breast band, broad supercillium on an otherwise plain face, and rusty coverts. Largely white tail with black T on the tail tip.
