Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus auratus), Hannagan Creek, Greenlee CountyThis Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker was found and photographed by Felipe Guerrero on 07 October 2017 Most of the Northern Flickers seen in Arizona that have yellower shafts are intergrades between the Red-shafted and Yellow-shafted forms. Pure Yellow-shafted Northern Flickers are rare in Arizona. No outward signs of intergression with a brown face,
gray crown, bright yellow in the wings and tail, black
malar, and red nape patch. Intergrades usually have an
intermediate face patterns with gray in the cheek and
