Curve-billed Thrasher (Toxostoma curvirostre), Flagstaff, Coconino County

This Curve-billed Thrasher was found by Roger Sleeper on 13 October 2018 and photographed by Joe Crouse on the same date.

Common across southern Arizona this species is a casual visitor outside of its range. Though this species occurs close to the county line in Sedona, this appears to be the first record of this species in Coconino County.

Long curved bill, orange iris, plain gray overall, with rounded spots on the underparts and grayish flanks identify this individual from the similar Bendire's Thrasher. The bird was also heard calling. Weak wingbar and evenly but indistinct spots on the underparts identify this as the western palmeri.
