Brant (Branta bernicla), Roper Lake State Park, Graham County

These two Brant were found and photographed by Kelly Wright on 21 November 2019

Brant is usually strictly coastal and confined to salt water. It is very rare in Arizona with only 18 accepted records. There are two prior fall records, both from November. If accepted by the ABC this would represent the first record for Graham County.

Fairly distinct if seen well. White neck marking is diagnostic. The amount of white on the neck as well as the low contrast between chest and foreflank indicate this is the expected "Black" Brant.
