Berylline Hummingbird (Amazilia beryllina), Santa Rita Lodge--Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County

This Berylline Hummingbird was found by Emily and Sam Saunders on 25 April 2020 and photographed by Levi Plummer on 09 May 2020 and by Patricia A. Isaacson on 23 May 2020

Nearly annual summer visitor to the canyons of the southeast part of the state. Has nested.

Note rufous or cinnamon wing panels, purple-bronze upper tail, and bright green head, throat, & back. Hybrids between this species and Rivoli's Hummingbird have been reported but typically show less extensive rufous in the wings
