Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens), Lake St. Clair, Tohono O'odham Nation, Pinal County

This Reddish Egret was found by Keith Kamper and Doug Jenness on 21 August 2019 and photographed by Doug Jenness on 11 September 2019

Rare and increasing summer/fall visitor in Arizona. Nearly all records pertain to juveniles and are likely from nesting areas along the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) in Mexico.

A medium-sized heron, intermediate in size between Great and Snowy egrets. Juveniles/immatures have an overall odd, creamy dark gray coloration with patchy pale rusty tones to head, neck, breast and wings; dark legs and dark bill; contrasting pale eyes.
