White-eared Hummingbird (Hylocharis leucotis), Beatty's Guest Ranch , Cochise CountyThis White-eared Hummingbird was photographed by Brendan Galvin
and Patricia A Isaacson on 15 June 2020 A rare summer resident in the mountains of southeastern Arizona. Breeding has been documented before. At least two have been present in Miller Canyon since mid May. The white eyebrow of White-eared Hummingbird is
brighter and more broad than any other species of
hummingbird in Arizona, although some others can show a
rather distinct pale supercilium, especially
Broad-billed and Blue-throated. Also note the extensive
green speckling on the underparts. Young male with
incoming blue feathers on the head. 15 June 2020, photo by Brendan Galvin 15 June 2020, photo by Patricia A Isaacson All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
