Common Crane (Grus grus), Kinnikinick Lake, Coconino County

This Common Crane was photographed by Dalton Sonnenberg on 02 July 2020

Presumably the same individual that has summered at nearby Mormon Lake in 2017 and 2019. This year it was first discovered at Mormon Lake on 9 May 2020 by Brian and Richard Hofsetter. For more information see the original report here and a note discussing the record here. A different Common Crane was also found in northeastern California in late summer of 2020.

Mostly gray body, with a distinctly large, black-tipped bustle. Black crown and forehead. Noticeable was a white rear portion of the face extending to the hindcrown, and extending down the back of the neck. The bill appeared to be a dull yellowish. The legs were blackish
