Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus), Dateland, Yuma County

This Least Flycatcher was found by Kav McGeough and Caleb Strand and photographed by Caleb Strand on 19 September 2020.

Casual visitor with less than 15 prior accepted records, most from fall.

Empidonax flycatchers are a difficult group to identify. Helpful features that separate this bird from Dusky Flycatcher include the head and neck shape, short, wide bill with convex sides, high wing contrast (very wide, bright wing bars with the rest of the wing rather blackish), complete eyering, and short wings and tail. Audio of this bird can be found here.
