Northern Jacana (Jacana spinosa), Canoa Ranch Conservation Park, Pima County

This Northern Jacana was photographed by Craig Thayer on 09 September 2020.

A juvenile Northern Jacana was discovered on a private golf course in Green Valley on 8 September 2020 by Rob Rutledge, and presumably the same individual moved to Canoa Ranch, and was re-discovered there on the morning of 9 September. It remained there for three days through the 11th, and was seen by many birders!

This will represent a 6th Arizona record, and the second of a juvenile-plumaged bird (the October 2008 Patagonia Lake bird was also a juvenile). The last Jacana to be found in Arizona was an adult bird at Dave White Golf Course in Casa Grande, 1 November 2007-9 April 2008
