Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca), Ocotillo Golf Course, Chandler, Maricopa County

These Egyptian Geese were photographed by Richard Catero on 08 May 2021

Native to Africa, this species has been widely introduced in Europe and North America, and has become established in Florida, Texas and California. There have been scattered reports of presumed escapees from central Arizona, with some birds persisting for months or longer.

Distinctive and easily recognized. Note the pale eye surrounded by a brown patch, tan body and white forewings visible in flight.
