Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor), Gilbert Water Ranch, Maricopa County

This Tricolored Heron was discovered on 02 June 2021 by Diana Kidman Spangler and photographed by Pierre Deviche the same day.

Tricolored Heron is a casual visitor to Arizona, most often in summer. Most records are of immatures but this is an adult.

Contrast between dark breast and white belly unique among North American herons in all plumages.
