Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda), Santa Cruz Flats, Pinal CountyThis Upland Sandpiper was photographed by Steven Kessel on 28 September 2021 along Greene Reservoir Rd. east of Sunshine Blvd. Casual in fall (mainly mid August to mid September) with about 15 prior records for the state. This is apparently the fourth sighting for Pinal County. Upland Sandpiper has a very distinctive shape with small head, large eyes, thin neck and long tail.
The pale face, white belly, and yellow legs are also distinctive. 28 September 2021, photo by Steven Kessel All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
