Red Knot (Calidris canutus), John Lake Playa, Coconino County

This Red Knot was photographed by Jason Wilder on 28 August 2021.

Discovered by Jake Thompson and Alexis Stark on 28 August 2021, and seen by several others on the same morning. Note that there are many better photos of this bird than I am submitting here (which is my own photo), including: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/364615451 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/364751411 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/364794231 https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/364647461

The Red Knot is a casual fall transient in Arizona. Its worldwide population is seriously declining. If accepted this would be a first county record for Coconino.

Stocky, medium sized shorebird with reddish underparts and stout, straight bill.
