Hybrid Common x Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula X Bucephala islandica), Below Parker Dam, La Paz County

This Common x Barrow's Goldeneye was discovered by David Vander Pluym and Lauren Harter on 2 December 2008 and photographed by David Vander Pluym on 03 December 2008.

Hybrid Goldeneye's are rarely seen and could be mistaken for a pure bird. This bird shows an intermediate back pattern, and the white spot is neither a crescent nor rounded. The head sheen was maroon which is shown by neither species, but according to the Sibely Guide is shown by hybrids.
