Black-throated Green Warbler (Dendroica virens), Sweetwater, Pima County

One of the striking Dendroica warblers, the Black-throated Green is a casual transient in Arizona, primarily in the fall. There are about 20 records of the species for southeastern Arizona. This bird was found by Molly Pollock and Mark Stevenson at Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson on 4 November 2007 and seen again the next day by many birders.

When identifying a rare Black-throated Green Warbler in Arizona, the main "confusion species" are Townsend's Warbler and especially hybrids of Townsend's and Hermit warblers. Check your field guides for details.
