Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii minima), Estrella Ranch Ponds, Goodyear, Maricopa County
This bird was first reported on 30 October 2006 by Jukka Jantunen and reported again on 9 December.
Cackling Goose was recently split from Canada Goose by the AOU. Observers have noted the relatively tiny size of this goose; it is likely of the minima subspecies. Cackling Goose has been rarely documented in Arizona. It is on the ABCs list of review species.

Cackling Goose has recently been split from Canada Goose, hence, little is know of the true status of the "small Canada geese in Arizona. Cackling Goose is an Arizona Bird Committee Review species.
