Red-throated Loon (Gavia stellata), Roper Lake State Park, Safford, Graham County

Red-throated Loon is a casual migrant and winter visitor to southern Arizona and is an ABC Review Species. Aside from one at Aravaipa, Graham County in October 1969 listed in "Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Arizona 2nd edition" (Monson and Phillips, 1981) there are no documented records of the species from southeast Arizona. This bird was found on 2 December 2007 at Roper Lake State Park, Safford, Graham County, by Keith Kamper and Scott Schuette.
