Mew Gull (Larus canus), Lake Havasu, Mohave County

This Mew Gull was photographed by Lauren Harter on 21 March 2019

Casual statewide but increasing in recent years in the lower Colorado River Valley. 27 previously accepted records and one pending. Previous reports from Lake Havasu from November 2018 and January 2019 may be the same bird.

Smaller-billed than a Ring-billed Gull. Smudgy brown body plumage, brown tail, and heavily barred uppertail coverts also distinguish this from Ring-billed Gull.
